MY SERVICES

PSYCHOTHERAPY
I provide therapy to adults of any age for up to 20 sessions. I work with individuals, couples, and relationships. Sessions are offered in person, online or by phone.

I value and respect difference and diversity and work with all people, beliefs, and ways of being - including gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity.

I am open to working with any aspect of a person’s life unless I have a reason to recommend that you work with another more suited therapist/facilitator which we will explore together. Please get in touch with any questions and to discuss availability.
Making a start...
We will begin with an initial conversation as a first step in exploring whether I am a good fit for your needs. We can do this in person, online or on the phone. Please also send any questions you have by email. This is a free session of 30 minutes.

We will explore any initial questions you may have about working with me and how I might support you at this time. This will help us to begin to get a sense of...

-
the focus and frequency of your sessions
-
·whether you would like to work with me in person, online or by phone
-
·agreeing on a set number of sessions or to work in an open-ended way
-
any specific goals you might have that can be changed or reviewed at any time
-
or whether you prefer to work with whatever issues as and when they arise.
What you share with me during our work together will be held in confidence and will not be disclosed to others without your permission, except where I have reason to believe that you may be in danger of serious harm or that others are at risk.
In such cases, I have a right and duty to break confidentiality. It will always be my intention though to reflect on the ethical challenges facing us in a collaborative way.

To safeguard the quality of my clinical practice I also discuss aspects of my work with my clinical supervisor in such a way that does not identify my clients.

Please see the page on my approach for information about how I work. I look forward to hearing from you and exploring the possibility of working together...

EMPOWERING FACILITATION
Good facilitation is not about introducing expertise or attempting to influence the parties or group to go in any particular direction. It is about empowering the parties or group to utilize their own expertise and experience to co-create solutions and make decisions that will meet the needs at issue.
The role of the facilitator is to create an environment within which the participants can:
-
Take responsibility for the outcomes they want
-
Be honest and open in their communication with each other
-
Talk about the real issues
-
Trust in each to take risks and try out new ideas and ways of approaching things
-
Learn and grow within the context of the organisation, workgroup or interpersonal relationship
-
Use good interpersonal process skills
-
Care about each other’s place within the situation and value each other’s contribution

The Practice of Empowerment
The practice of empowerment is the process of enabling individuals to make changes that further their individual aspirations and/or those of the other parties, team or organization.
We will work together to co-create an empowering space that will enable each person to feel safe and trusting enough to explore change. An empowering space has five characteristics:
-
Affirmation
-
Choice
-
Trust
-
Courage
-
Aspiration
In order to create the conditions for this empowering space it is essential that the facilitation be conducted as an informal, voluntary and confidential process that takes account of any power differentials in the relationship/s or other factors having a bearing on the situation.
When joint sessions are conducted a second room will always be available to have private discussions with each person as and when needed.
Participants are invited to agree at the outset to maintain confidentiality. No report will be provided by the Facilitator to others without the express permission of all participants and agreement on what if anything is to be disclosed and to whom.

My facilitation service includes the design of the processes that need to occur before, during and after the event.

I have had over 30 years of experience as a facilitator and mediator and am also a qualified and experienced Group Psychotherapist.

CREATIVE RESOLUTIONS
I also offer facilitation for individuals who would like to explore a situation or problem and don't need therapy.

This is done using creative action and Psychodrama, which is described in detail on the Psychodrama page.

Even one or a few sessions can be helpful to explore a situation or solve a dilemma within yourself or with others. This is because Creative Action often leads to spontaneous ideas or realizations that haven't occurred yet.
Some Examples

-
Rehearsing a conversation you'd like to have with someone in your life
-
Exploring why you decide to do something important and then don't do it
-
Working out why you put off certain tasks all the time, even when this causes problems for you
-
Exploring a dialogue inside you about conflicting feelings or thoughts
